Jan. 3 — This Tuesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will review the new Medicare disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payment methodology that will go into effect in FY14 during a national provider call with Medicare fee-for-service providers.
The provider call, which will take place Tuesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, will give providers the opportunity to learn more about the new DSH payment methodology as outlined under Section 3133 of the Affordable Care Act. Providers also will have an opportunity to share comments with CMS during the call.
Two healthcare consulting firms that have analyzed the potential effects of the new payment methodology will present their findings during the provider call. They also will identify possible data sources and definitions for measuring the change in uninsured and uncompensated care that will result from the new payment methodology.
