106 New ACOs Formed Under Medicare Shared Savings Program
Jan. 10 — The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved 106
new accountable care organization (ACO) contracts, nearly doubling the
number of organizations selected to participate under the Medicare
Shared Savings Program, CMS announced Thursday.
Twenty-seven ACOs entered into contracts with CMS when the Medicare
Shared Savings Program was launched in April 2012, and another 87
organizations were selected to participate this past July. View the list of participants.
The new ACOs include a diverse cross-section of physician practices
across the country, CMS said in a release. Roughly half of all ACOs are
physician-led organizations that serve fewer than 10,000 beneficiaries.
Approximately 20 percent of ACOs include community health centers, rural
health centers, and critical access hospitals that serve low-income and
