Feb. 15—The National Federation of Nurses (NFT) will affiliate with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), whose 1.5 million members include more than 48,000 nurses and thousands of other healthcare professionals. The NFT represents 34,000 registered nurses.

The affiliation agreement—upon ratification by the NFN’s state organizations—also means affiliation within the AFL-CIO, of which the AFT is a member. The NFN is active in four states: Montana, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington. 

The AFT represents 1.5 million pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state, and local government employees; nurses and healthcare workers; and early childhood educators.
