ICD-10 Readiness Efforts Lagging, MGMA Study Shows
June 13—Physician practices are making slow progress in preparing for the Oct. 1, 2014 ICD-10 compliance deadline according to a recent study by the Medical Group Management Association.
The study shows that only 4.7 percent of practices have made significant progress toward ICD-10 implementation readiness, and more than 50 percent have not started work.
The survey further reveals a concern with the lack of communication and coordination between physician practices and their vendors—claims clearinghouses, electronic health record (EHR) vendors and practice management system vendors—regarding software updates and testing. According to the survey, approximately half of practices have not heard from their vendors regarding the timeframe for EHR and practice management system upgrades or replacements.
The survey includes responses from more than 1,200 medical groups that encompass 55,000 physicians.
