Job title: Vice President of Finance, GBMC Healthcare Inc.
Responsible for: General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Budget & Financial Analysis, Treasury, etc.
Worked here since: August 2006
Best part of my job: The people I work with and facing the challenges to ensure that affordable quality healthcare will be available in our community for years to come.
I joined HFMA because: While at KPMG, I was asked to join by Bill Mooney, a partner with the firm and a recent chapter president at that time. He told me it was a great organization and would be helpful to my career.
First volunteer involvement with HFMA: Was asked to chair the sponsorship committee for a Region 4 Mid-Atlantic conference held in Baltimore.
Favorite HFMA memorys: The entertainment at the Maryland Chapter’s Annual Institute Banquets.
Benefits of HFMA involvement: The many friends I have made in HFMA; the quality education received at local and national events; and the volunteer leadership opportunities as an officer, director, various committee chairs, and now Regional Executive.
First job: Newspaper carrier.
Most unusual job: Operating a seafood Raw Bar.
My family: Married to my wonderful wife Mandy for 30 Glorious years this year; two great sons: George IV and Michael.
Pets: No pets at the moment. My favorite was “Distance” a Jack Russell Terrier.
If I’m not working, you’ll find me: Playing golf or games with family and friends.
Proudest moments: The births of my two sons.
Most difficult goal achieved: Passing the CPA exam.
Best advice received: Don’t be afraid to share your ideas, even when they differ from the crowd.
Favorite sports team: Baltimore Ravens—they are exciting to watch and have had great team leaders.
Movie I’d recommend: Rear Window (the original with James Stewart and Grace Kelly) … because I enjoy Hitchcock movies and this one is great blend of suspense, humor, and social commentary, entirely shot from one room.
Hero: Capt. Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, whose calm leadership in the midst of a deadly crisis saved the lives of 155 passengers.
People might be surprised to know that: I enjoy baking Christmas cookies.
