I joined HFMA because: I noticed all the professionals I looked up to and admired were not only members but active members.
First volunteer involvement with HFMA: When I first moved to New Mexico, there was a lot of turnover in leadership and many vacant board positions. I felt compelled to get involved as a board member. Within a few years I moved through the ranks and became the president.
Favorite HFMA memory: Leading the Region 10 conference in Santa Fe, N.M. back in 2007. We had a great turnout of vendors and registrants. Our golf outing sponsored the New Mexico Special Olympics. It was so successful we were able to present them with a check for $5,000. They were able to send one of their athletes to Hong Kong for the Special Olympics and the athlete ended up winning a medal.
Benefits of HFMA involvement: I have met so many great people over my 20 years of membership. I really believe so much of my success today comes from what I have learned, as well as the relationships I have made within the HFMA community.
Most unusual job: Army Infantry Officer, Ft. Benning Ga.
If I’m not working, you’ll find me: In the mountains running with my Lab
Proudest moment: Passing the CPA Exam.
Most difficult goal achieved: Passing the CPA exam.
Favorite quote: You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take — Wayne Gretzky.
Take chances, sometimes you will fail, that’s a given, but learn from them. Most times you’ll succeed; but doing nothing is the absolute worst!
Book I’d recommend: “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.
