Roger D. Mattke, FHFMA—Region 9
Job title: Sr Vice President/CFO, Lafayette General Medical Center
I joined HFMA: to insure I had access to a great resource of knowledge and networking that would help me keep my skill set at the highest level.
First volunteer involvement with HFMA: I was asked at a social one evening at a meeting to help out with a committee planning education events. It was that simple and I think there’s lots of future volunteers out there that just need to be asked.
Favorite HFMA memory: All the crawfish boils at the Louisiana Chapter’s annual meeting. Very little beats great food, drink and conversation with old and new friends.
Benefits of HFMA involvement: The great networking provided by knowing all the other HFMA members I’ve worked with. We’re able to share and collaborate and take new ideas back to the workplace at home. I’ll never forget the result of one of my first meetings. I had a discussion with a peer and he was explaining a reimbursement program that no one in my shop was aware of There was a short window of opportunity but with this new knowledge I was able to guide the finance staff to obtain a multi-million dollar windfall that would have otherwise disappeared. This one experience more than paid for a lifetime of HFMA membership dues!
