Aug. 1—HFMA is seeking comments on draft guidelines for medical debt collection intended to improve the overall collection process, patient experience, and financial performance.

The guidelines identify common practices for widespread industry adoption. They were developed by a task face led by HFMA and the Association of Credit and Collections Professionals (ACA International). Task force members include health system CFOs, revenue cycle leaders, and medical debt collection experts; representatives from credit bureau, predictive modeling and technology, and consumer advocate organizations; and association leaders. The task force is sponsored by State Collection Service, Connance, and Experian.

Comments are accepted until August 31.
