CMS Develops Customer Service Lines for Verifying Marketplace Coverage
Dec. 30—A new database will feature customer service phone numbers for every plan included in the federal insurance marketplaces, which hospitals and other providers may use to verify that patients have coverage via the marketplaces, also known as exchanges.
The database will be especially useful for patients who enroll in coverage days before seeking treatment and do not yet have insurance cards verifying enrollment information as well as patients who are unaware that they need to present insurance cards upon seeking treatment.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced the formation of the database as well as the availability of fact sheets for insurance marketplace patients on Monday.
Hospitals and other providers located in states that have opted to run their own exchanges should contact the state exchange to verify enrollment. Visit the healthcare.gov website to locate websites for state exchanges (select the name of the state in the box at the left-hand side of the page).
