201213_RE_Rickman_Jay Chapter: South Carolina

Job title: Senior Vice President, AMCOL Systems, I'm responsible for administration and business development. I've worked here since 1981.

I joined HFMA because: HFMA serves my industry and market space.

Favorite HFMA memory: I have multiple memories and relationships that I formed throughout my HFMA experience and career.

Best part of my job: Meeting people and fostering relationships, which I continue to do 25 years after joining.

First job: Paper delivery boy (on my bicycle). I think it's where I also first started collecting money!!

Most unusual job: Working as a veterinarian assistant as a high school student. I assisted in bringing little puppies and kittens to life and helped spay, neuter, and crop dogs ears. Due to privacy regulations I am unable to give you the names of the animals ....

Family: I am the proud father of 3 boys, ages 20, 9 and 8

Pets: Fondest memories, was Kojak, my albino Boxer; Sullivan, my golden retriever, and my two brand new 5-week-old kittens that my 9-year-old son rescued while he was with me at a Chapter Institute a few weeks ago.

If I'm not working, you'll find me: Sleeping ....

Hobbies: Fishing with my children, bike riding, exercising.

Proudest moment: Crossing the finish line on my first 10K race. But now, it's watching my oldest child go through a transformation as a cadet student at The Citadel, which is here in Charleston, SC. My son has come from a struggling high school student to a dean's list student, is in charge of the approximately 100 Cadets in his company, and is working now in preparing for the Medical College Acceptance Test.

Most difficult goal I've achieved: Helping to get our now 8-year-old son to see his 3rd birthday. He had a bone marrow transplant for a very rare disorder when he was 2.

Best advice I've received: To listen to people.

Favorite quote: Fantastic! It my mother's favorite term. Mom exudes positive energy.

Favorite food: Greek (big surprise! It's my heritage!)

Favorite song "At Last" by Etta James and "Satisfaction," Rolling Stones-"At Last" was my wedding dance with my lovely wife, Wendy. "Satisfaction"...if you are a Stones fan, you'll know why!

Favorite sports team: The University of South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks-USC is my Alma mater.

A play I'd recommend is: "The Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway.

My heroes/mentors: My mom and dad

People might be surprised to know that: I speak for languages; English, Greek, Spanish, and Southern!

Benefits of HFMA involvement: I met my wife through friends I met in HFMA. I remain close to both!
