Speaker Bio

Claudia Birkenshaw Garabelli, MSA has more than 21 years of leadership and consulting experience with hospital physicians and management and an expertise that encompasses hardwiring daily operations.  Claudia has held director-level revenue cycle positions for both hospital and physician providers and worked intimately with physicians, nurses, IT, and all ancillary staff in order to assure clinical excellence, compliance in orders/billing/reimbursement, and to ensure appropriate payment was received. In addition, she has championed many different projects and implemented multiple quality improvement/lean processes. Claudia is a nationally recognized expert in and speaker on the healthcare revenue cycle, especially front- and back-end activities. She has authored several books and multiple articles related to revenue cycle and hospital billing. Claudia is also an active member of the National Uniform Billing Committee, representing HFMA, and participates in the National Uniform Claim Committee, both of which are named in the HIPAA legislation as the organizations that determine codes and their definitions used on healthcare billing forms UB-04 and CMS 1500.
