Physician preference items (PPI) represent big dollars. PPI, including medical devices, account for about 40 percent of a typical supply budget (HFMA, 2005), so bringing PPI under control is critical for an organization's financial success. Organizations need to better capture and understand their PPI purchases by putting new processes in place.
