When Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) centralized clinical documentation improvement (CDI) programs at four acute-care hospitals under revenue cycle, it borrowed principles used in ambulance triage and dispatch to create an innovative new design to CDI management. The initiative is achieving success for all four HFHS hospitals; in fact 2013 data shows a contribution of $9.3 million to HFHS.

After This Session, You'll Be Able To:

  • Identify the people, process, and technology factors essential to integrating CDI across multiple facilities
  • Assess the limitations of standard metrics for measuring CDI benefits and outcomes
  • Learn and apply analytics to the CDI process to impact CDI outcomes while the patient is in-house, as well as analyze variance from peer groups, and demonstrate ROI
  • Evaluate the benefits of dynamic management of CDI staff deployment to optimize resources in real time
