About the Award
HFMA is recognizing outstanding hospitals with the High Performance Award in Revenue Cycle. The award criteria identify hospitals that demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility and have implemented practices, including clear financial communication, that promote positive patient experiences.
The High Performance Award in Revenue Cycle was first presented at ANI: The Healthcare Finance Conference in 2009 (see a list of last year's winners). This year, the Second Annual High Performance Award in Revenue Cycle will again be presented at the 2010 ANI to up to 15 hospitals that meet or exceed the award criteria.

Q. What does the High Performance Award in Revenue Cycle recognize?
A. The award recognizes healthcare organizations that are distinctive, innovative and effective in revenue cycle process improvements and patient satisfaction. In addition, it recognizes sustainable financial performance that serves the mission of the organization.
Q. How will HFMA determine the winner of this award?
A. Reviewers will identify hospitals that meet or exceed the award criteria listed on the online application.
Q. Where did the award criteria come from?
A. They are based on HFMA's Revenue Cycle Key Performance Indicators, developed by HFMA’s KPI Task Force, and on research from the latest PATIENT FRIENDLY BILLING® report, Strategies for a High-Performance Revenue Cycle, published in 2009.
Q. Who is eligible to apply for the award?
A. All acute-care hospitals are eligible.
Q. Do I have to be an HFMA member to apply?
A. To be eligible, an executive leader in your organization must be a member of HFMA.
Q. Why is there a fee to apply for this award?
A. The $75 application fee helps cover the administrative costs associated with this award program.
Q. What if I am part of a system?
A. The award is hospital-specific, so you must apply as an individual hospital.
Q. Who chooses the winners?
A. The HFMA High Performing Advisory Board, which is comprised of HFMA staff, and industry leaders and experts in the revenue cycle.
Q. What is the deadline for completing the application?
A. All applications must be submitted by March 12, 2010.
Q. How will the winners be notified?
A. All winners will be notified by telephone and will be recognized at HFMA’s ANI: The Healthcare Finance Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 20-23.
Q. How will my organization be recognized if we win the award?
A. Award recipients will be recognized at several special events at ANI, including a presentation of the awards at the Monday morning general session. HFMA will also recognize the winners in its online communications and print publications, and will provide winners with press materials they can use to announce the award to their communities. Finally, award winners will become part of a distinguished peer group of healthcare finance leaders who are helping to define best practices for a high performance revenue cycle.
