Chicago - June 28, 2005 – The Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA’s) most prestigious chapter award, the Robert M. Shelton Award for Sustained Excellence, was presented to the Tennessee Chapter on June 27 during the 52nd Annual Chapter Presidents’ Dinner and Meeting at HFMA’s Annual National Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Shelton Award is given in recognition of five years of sustained excellence in service to members. In the past five years, the Tennessee Chapter has displayed steady growth in membership, achieving a 15.5 percent increase overall, and averaging 87.4 percent retention. The chapter has also averaged more than a 10 percent increase in total registrant hours over the five year period. The Tennessee Chapter achieved 44 passed certification exams this past year, more than any other HFMA chapter, and earned a satisfaction rating from its members that is 5.5 percent higher than the average for all chapters.
In the past five years, the chapter has also received 47 chapter awards, including the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement, the Awards of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, Certification and Education, and the Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Award.
The Chapter’s immediate past president, David R. Elliott, addressed the chapter and national leaders attending the President’s Dinner. The four previous chapter presidents were also recognized during the ceremony for their efforts in earning this award: Judith B. Henry, CHFP, 2003-04; Cynthia H. Sharp, FHFMA, MBA, 2002-03; William C. Matheney, FHFMA, CPA, 2001-02; and Michael S. Johns, FHFMA, CPA, 2000-01.
“The commitment of the Tennessee Chapter has resulted in enhanced benefits and value for HFMA members,” says HFMA President and CEO Richard L. Clarke. “They’ve done an excellent job over the past five years and truly deserve this recognition.”
