WESTCHESTER – June 1, 2009 The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has elected Catherine A. Jacobson, FHFMA, CPA, to serve as the organization’s voluntary Chair of the Board of Directors for 2009-10. Her term begins June 1, 2009, and she will be inducted at HFMA’s Annual National Institute, June 14-17 in Seattle, Washington.
Jacobson is Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning & Finance, CFO, and Treasurer for Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Making It Count, the new Chair’s theme, will be introduced at ANI. “The theme emphasizes our members’ drive to apply their business leadership skills— to make their efforts count— in the service of improving our healthcare system” stated Jacobson. “During this challenging economic period, our member organizations and institutions can especially benefit from the skills and talents of our membership.”
HFMA’s immediate past Chair, Robert Broadway, FHFMA, Vice President of Corporate Strategy at the Bethesda Healthcare System, said, “Cathy’s deep commitment to building positive outcomes within the larger healthcare community, her expert knowledge of the issues in healthcare finance, and her example of making it count as a valued member of HFMA make her uniquely qualified to serve in this important leadership role.”

A member of HFMA since 1989, Jacobson has served HFMA in many roles on the national and chapter levels. She has served on and chaired the: Principles & Practices Board, Strategic Planning Committee, Executive Committee, Audit & Finance Committee. She has served on the Board of Directors since 2004. Ms. Jacobson is the recipient of both the Follmer Bronze and Reeves Silver merit awards.
