Orlando, Fla  - June 19, 2006 The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has awarded Fred J. Lucky, FHFMA, the 2006 Frederick C. Morgan Achievement Award – the Association's highest individual honor. Fred J. Lucky is the 48th recipient of this prestigious award that honors career long contributions to healthcare financial management and HFMA.

Fred J. Lucky, FHFMA, who earned the Founders Medal of Honor Award in 1993, was selected as the 2006 Frederick C. Morgan Individual Achievement Award recipient. Fred served on the HFMA National Board of Directors, as well as on the National Matrix, the Nominating Committee, the Chapter Services Council and the Board of Examiners. In addition, he held all of the major volunteer positions for both the Heart of America Chapter and the Sunflower (Kansas) Chapter, earning 686 Founders points (converted to 172 points under the revised system), and he continues to serve his present chapter, Sunflower.

Members of the judging committee were impressed with Fred’s success in helping the Sunflower Chapter to forge strong relations with the Kansas Hospital Association as well as with a number of other organizations in the state to the benefit of their respective members. These partnerships have helped the Sunflower Chapter to lead all chapters in registrant hours per member from 1999 through 2005.

Fred J. Lucky has also had significant civic involvement and played an integral role in obtaining additional Medicaid funding for Kansas providers. A member since 1976, Fred became a Fellow of HFMA in 1997.

Gary A. Withman, Vice President of Finance and CPA of Hutchinson Hospital in Kansas said, “Fred has worked extensively to enhance HFMA’s ability to equip its members to meet the challenge and change in healthcare. His dedication to HFMA has been a common thread throughout Fred’s career and he has endeavored to integrate HFMA into all of his advocacy efforts. He has always been an excellent ambassador for HFMA at the local, state and national level and is certainly deserving of the honor of receiving the Frederick C. Morgan Individual Achievement Award.”

About the Award
The award was named for Frederick C. Morgan, who joined the Association in 1948. His outstanding efforts included a six year tenure as volunteer secretary treasurer. The Morgan Award is the most prestigious individual award given by HFMA and is designed to encourage the spirit of service to the principles of the Association as fostered by Morgan himself. Morgan retired from healthcare in 1965 and died in Rochester, N.Y. in 1985. HFMA members and chapters may submit nominations, which are reviewed by a committee.
