HFMA National Speaking Opportunities

Adjust font size: A   A   A  |  Printer-friendly version
The Annual National Institute (ANI) draws an attendance of 2000+ healthcare financial managers. This is a 4- day conference that is held at the end of June. Calls for Presentations are available by July 1 of the year prior to the next conference. Visit the ANI website at www.hfma.org/ani for the brochure and application form or e-mail aniprogcoord@hfma.org. Selection for the following year’s conference is usually made by the beginning of December.

Proposals submitted after October 1 may not be reviewed. Some, but not all, criteria for choosing a proposal include:
  • Experience of presenter(s)
  • Programs that include a speaker from the provider sector
  • Presentations that include practical take-home tools and techniques
  • Programs that are interactive and include adult learning principles

Topics should be timely, focused on healthcare financial management needs, and can relate to delivery systems and financial management/legal/legislative issues within these delivery systems, from either a payer, purchaser and/or provider perspective. The method of delivery of this information should include such techniques as group discussion, case study analyses, and simulations. Proposals that are aimed at selling a product or service will not be selected.

Seminars Clusters are one day (7 hours) or two days (14 hours) programs held in the fall and spring in different locations around the country. Speakers should be willing to present their program more than once within a 3-4 month time frame as seminars are repeated several times during the year. Seminars topics are focused and fall under the following categories:

  • Financial Management/Reimbursement
  • Revenue Cycle
  • Managed Care Operations and Processes
  • Long-Term Care/Home Health Care

Check the HFMA website for our current list of seminars as an example of the types of programs we select as well as the kind of information we would like you to submit. Seminar speakers are compensated for their presentations.

Audio Webcasts are 1 and ¾ hour phone conference calls where the participants dial into a central number from around the country and are bridged into the call with the speaker. The speaker can be located anywhere in the country. Typical Audio Webcast topics are breaking financial information – or information that is of a pressing concern to healthcare financial managers, and that can be a focused topic for this short length of time. We appreciate that speakers agreeing to present an Audio Webcast agree to waive compensation.

Proposals for seminar and audio webcast opportunities should include the following information:

  1. The format that is being proposed: seminar or audio webcast.
  2. Proposed title
  3. Session description - including session objectives, outline of the content, methods of teaching (latter not needed for audio webcast)
  4. Target audience (i.e. CFOs, PFS managers, senior financial executives, revenue cycle managers, etc.) and level of the subject matter (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
  5. Qualifications of speakers – include a short biography of all speakers involved
  6. Rationale for recommending the topic

Selected presenters for seminars should be prepared to participate in a dry run, which includes several HFMA members and staff who will provide feedback on content and educational design.

Proposals for seminars are accepted throughout the year, and will be implemented, if accepted, into the next semester of clusters.

Proposals for audio webcasts are accepted year-round.

For further questions you may call/e-mail Sue Spear at (708) 492-3334 or sspear@hfma.org regarding seminar proposals or Dawna White, (708) 492-3338 or dwhite@hfma.org regarding audio webcast proposals. Thanks for your interest!
