HFMA’s Communities of Practice (CoP) is a new method for HFMA members to connect with others who are collectively working to advance the profession of healthcare finance. These subscription-based communities are designed by and made up of people who are passionate about developing their knowledge and skills in their given specialty area of healthcare finance.

What is a CoP?

CoPs may serve members at their current career stage or affinity group. HFMA recognizes that our members crave interaction with peers to get at the tacit knowledge that is captured only through experience or by active practice and is otherwise not easily gleaned from an education session or an audio webcast. Each CoP strives to create opportunities to transfer tacit knowledge and provides a place for each community member to practice new concepts and ideas in a safe, peer-supported environment.

Subscribers to HFMA’s CoPs use an exclusive web based tool for members-only to explore unique issues relevant their role in the healthcare finance industry. Each community gives subscribers the ability to:

  • Network with other HFMA members from diverse experiences to share strategies and increase each other’s knowledge-base;
  • Learn with each other about the challenges unique to their role in healthcare finance.
  • Post news documents for the entire community to read and use when tackling a specific issue;
  • Post resources and tools related to a specific discussion to further enhance the discussion and implement solutions; and
  • Meet face-to-face at HFMA conferences and meetings, or through conference calls and virtual seminars with industry experts.
