The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has posted Medicare payment information for physicians and hospital outpatient departments on the CMS web site at www.cms.hhs.gov/HealthCareConInit/. The data include payment rates for more than 70 physician services provided in nonoffice settings as well as 19 services usually performed in a physician’s office. The outpatient hospital payment data also give information on commonly performed procedures. The new information will allow consumers and users of the data to compare the costs and procedures, which vary depending on the site of service, and to select the most appropriate setting for the delivery of high-quality, efficient care, said CMS.
