HFMA Executive Survey: Labor Management Trends

August 22, 2018 1:28 pm

An HFMA/Navigant survey of 101 healthcare CFOs and operations executives indicates that these executives anticipate both labor budget increases and continued staffing shortages of physicians, nurses, and mental health providers over the next 12 months. Specifically, 78 percent of surveyed executives project their labor budgets to increase. The majority of those polled also described their current staffing shortage situations to be the same or worse than compared to last year.

Survey respondents ranked productivity improvement and workflow redesign as their primary labor management improvement initiatives over the next 12 months.
