Patient Friendly Billing: Standards of Excellence Phase

Adjust font size: A   A   A  |  Printer-friendly version

The PATIENT FRIENDLY BILLING® project’s current phase is Standards of Excellence.  The purpose of this phase is to identify revenue cycle characteristics or processes with the most impact on value to consumers and hospitals.

The project has selected a group of high-performing revenue cycle hospitals for study to identify their revenue cycle processes and other characteristics of successful hospitals. These hospitals have been interviewed using questions based on the initial Standards of Excellence criteria.

The goal of the project is to identify common processes that drive value at high-performing hospitals. Information about the project and preliminary findings from the hospital interviews were presented at the 2009 ANI: The Healthcare Finance Conference.

In addition, the project wants to understand the status of industry adoption of Patient Friendly Billing and other processes that drive value.  This will be accomplished by surveying a broader group of hospitals regarding:

  • Awareness of Patient Friendly Billing
  • Implementation of Patient Friendly Billing
  • Value of Patient Friendly Billing
  • Overall usage of the processes identified as important by high-performing hospitals.
