I joined HFMA (back in 1992) because: My boss asked me to.
First volunteer involvement with HFMA: When I co-chaired the Reimbursement Committee, but became more heavily involved after I started the officer track as secretary.
Favorite HFMA memory: Probably my first LTC in New Orleans (2 months before Katrina); it was a great time in a great city. I have so many HFMA memories though, due to the great people I’ve encountered and worked with on the local, regional, and national levels, and also due to the numerous cities I’ve been able to travel to.
Benefits of HFMA involvement: It gave me the confidence to speak in front of people and it helped me secure my current job. I always tell people that the more I put into HFMA, the more I get out of it.
Heroes: my parents, both recently deceased, who made me who I am today, by being extraordinary role models, and my son Tom, a Sergeant in the US Army, for what he has achieved and for serving our country. My world centers around my wife of almost 35 years, Evelyn, our son Tom, daughter-in-law, Angela and their two children, Aaron and Carmela, along with our daughter Jenna, and her husband Stephen, who are expecting their first this August.
