In his book, Owning Medical Practices: Best Practices for Sustainable Results, Marc D. Halley emphasizes the importance of physician productivity on the financial success of a medical practice. A performance-based physician compensation model is one key driver of physician productivity, he writes. A secondary driver: an effective clinical assistant who helps manage the physician’s productivity, in addition to supporting high-quality care.

As indicated on the attached tool that Halley shares, other factors also contribute to physician productivity, including the number of examination rooms available and how those rooms are arranged and stocked.

Hospital and physician leaders can use this evaluation to help determine improvements that can be made in medical practices to increase physician productivity.
