Metropolitan Philadelphia Scholarships

John A. Yannacone Scholarship

Thank you for requesting an application for the John A. Yannacone Scholarship. The scholarship is sponsored by the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). The members of HFMA and its local chapter are healthcare financial managers from various sectors of the industry.

The John Yannacone Scholarship is intended to benefit those outstanding individuals interested in a health care industry career and to aid them in furthering their education in the field. The award is given in memory of John A. Yannacone, a leader in HFMA and the healthcare industry who pursued the advancement of healthcare issues among financial professionals and the community for many years before his untimely death.

This year’s awards are as follows:

  • A cash award of $500 for an undergraduate student
  • A cash award of $500 for a graduate student

Please submit an electronic version of the attached application for the scholarship, along with the essay (as a Word document) that you want reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The attachments should be submitted no later than March 31 of each award year.

Richard B. Ellis, Jr. Scholarship

The Richard B. Ellis, Jr. Scholarship is intended to benefit children of members of the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of HFMA who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in either Accounting or Finance and have expressed an interest in the healthcare industry. The scholarship has been established in the memory of Richard B. Ellis, Jr., a Chapter member and leader in the Philadelphia-area healthcare industry who was a friend, mentor and colleague to many of us. Rich worked in public accounting before becoming a senior financial executive with one of our area’s largest health systems before his untimely death in 2008 at age 51.

Annual Award Amount:
The Richard B. Ellis, Jr. Scholarship provides a cash award of $1,000 to an eligible undergraduate student who is selected by the Chapter Scholarship Committee based upon the information furnished in the scholarship application.

Submission Requirements:
Please email an electronic version of the attached scholarship application, including an essay (saved as a MS Word document), to Kenny Decker and James Servansky, on behalf of the Chapter Scholarship Committee, no later than December 22nd of each year.
