Greater Heartland HFMA:

  • How did you first become interested in Non-Metro Programming Chair for the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • I was a committee member of Non-Metro Programming last year and was asked to be the chair this year. Paula Littleton, Greater Heartland’s Vice President and Programming Chair, encouraged participation in HFMA during her time at MU Health Care.

  • How does the Non-Metro Programming Chair support the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • As the Non-Metro Programing Chair, I tackle events outside of the KC and St. Louis Metro areas. These events usually take place in Columbia or Springfield, MO, but members from all over are welcome.

  • What are you looking for in a volunteer?
    • I look for dependable and excited volunteers. Being excited to get involved with HFMA and share ideas is the first step to having a fulfilling year as a volunteer.

Tell us a little about yourself:

  • What do you enjoy outside of work and volunteering?
    • I like to spend time reading, baking, attending local events, and tackling a long list of projects on my house.

  • What do you enjoy doing with your Family and Friends?
    • I enjoy finding live music in my community, trying new restaurants in Columbia (there is never a shortage of great, local food), or relaxing and watching a movie. Most recently I attended the Mizzou Marching band competition Champion of Champions and the Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra, both of which were great events.

  • Personal goals you are working on right now?
    • I am working on perfecting a pumpkin roll recipe for Thanksgiving, playing the trumpet more, and reaching my reading goal for 2022.

Tell us a little about your professional life:

  • What is your professional role? What organization are you part of?
    • I work in the Controller’s Office at MU Health Care. We are responsible for the full cycle accounting operations, preparing financial statements for the hospital and its affiliates, coordinating external audit activities, and much more.

  • What brought you into healthcare and what do you enjoy about it?
    • I started in healthcare in my first accounting job and realized I loved the industry. I was a few months from graduating with a Bachelors degree in accounting when I was hired as an accountant at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. I eventually moved back to Missouri and found a home at MU Health Care. Although my role as an accountant does not directly affect patient care, I love that my job and employer makes a difference in the lives of patients, their families, and our community.

  • Professional goals you are working on right now?
    • I am currently pursuing a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Missouri, so I spend a fair amount of time working on coursework. I am looking forward to completing this goal – and no more homework!

Greater Heartland HFMA:

  • How did you first become interested in Spring Conference Chair for the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • I co-chaired the 2022 Spring Conference and was asked to Chair the 2023 conference.

  • How does the Spring Conference Chair support the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • Overall, the goal of the Spring Conference chair is to lead a talented and experienced committee from diverse areas of healthcare, to come together and create a conference that not only brings educational value to the chapter’s members but provides them with opportunities to grow their network and be amongst like-minded individuals.

  • What are you looking for in a volunteer?
    • I enjoy working with those who are committed to the mission of HFMA, dedicated to creating a successful conference, aren’t afraid to “think outside the box,” and bring innovative ideas to the conversation.

Tell us a little about yourself:

  • What do you enjoy outside of work and volunteering?
    • I love spending time on Table Rock lake year round! My husband and I purchased a lake house in 2020, and it’s my favorite place to be! I also love antiquing, thrifting, and DIY.

  • What do you enjoy doing with your Family and Friends?
    • I’m pretty low-key, so just spending time with them is what I enjoy. It could be at the lake, traveling, trying a new restaurant, going to a movie…about anything!

  • Personal goals you are working on right now?
    • I’d say my personal goals aren’t unique and likely very much the same for most people. Be more active, stress less, focus on what’s really important in life, save more, and cherish your time with others.

Tell us a little about your professional life:

  • What is your professional role? What organization are you part of?
    • I am the Senior Director, Client Services for SOC Telemed.  SOC Telemed facilitates specialty care telemedicine through technology and a network of more than 600 specialists and subspecialists

  • What brought you into healthcare and what do you enjoy about it?
    • I have been in healthcare my entire 22-year professional career. While I am in a role that I could’ve never imagined while pursuing health-related degrees, I am thankful for where my experience has brought me. Healthcare is challenging and complex, and that’s what I enjoy about it. There is never the same day in my work life!

  • Professional goals you are working on right now?
    • Professionally, my top priority is my team, so I’m focused on learning and growing as a leader

Greater Heartland HFMA:

  • How did you first become interested in Fall Conference Program Chair for the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • It started when I first participated on the 2021 spring conference committee led by Drew Deptola. The mission of providing education to our chapter and providing a venue of collaboration was an exciting opportunity for me to step outside of my day-to-day job. I will also add that the smile and encouragement from Connie Stimpson helped get me across the goal line.  There are many others that inspired me as well.

  • How does the Fall Conference Program Chair support the Greater Heartland Chapter?
    • As the Fall Chair, I have two missions in supporting Greater Heartland Chapter which involve collaboration with a great group of committee volunteers.
      • Growth: Put together an educational and networking program that will attract and retain members.
      • Educate: Work with a great committee to make sure we capture all educational needs for our Greater Heartland Chapter

  • What are you looking for in a volunteer?
    • Someone who wants to collaborate and make our Greater Heartland Events memorable.

Tell us a little about yourself:

  • What do you enjoy outside of work and volunteering?
    • As an avid golfer, I do not shy away from the opportunity to be outdoors.  When I’m not on the road or on the course, I’m constantly spending time with my wife and daughter in the sun at parks or on long walks.

  • What do you enjoy doing with your Family and Friends?
    • When I’m not on the course during the summer, you will find me with my family and friends around our family pool and in the fall, you will find us tailgating on Sundays at Arrowhead.

  • Personal goals you are working on right now?
    • Currently, I’m in a workout competition with eight of my buddies.  You must exercise at a minimum of 30 minutes, 5 days a week.  If you miss one of the workouts, you must contribute to the pot.  At some point when we have achieved our goals, we are going to take the pot and have a group dinner.
    • Finish my CHFP!!!!
    • I have a goal of playing in a United States Golf Association (USGA) event one day.
    • Spiritually, we have joined a church in Brentwood, TN and always working to continue to grow with my wife and child in the church.

Tell us a little about your professional life:

  • What is your professional role? What organization are you part of?
    • As VP, Clients Services, my role within EnableComp is to attract and maintain clients across eight states in the Mid-West. Acting as trusted advisor to our clients and prospects, I’m always looking to assist in any way possible, even if it is outside the scope of Complex Claims. (Workers’ Compensation, Veteran Administration, Out of State Medicaid and MVA/TPL)

  • What brought you into healthcare and what do you enjoy about it?
    • From the time I was born, I’ve never really been away from hospital. I used to look out the window of my elementary school and point at the hospital top floor proudly and tell my friends, that’s where my dad works.  Growing up with a father who operated hospitals across the country, it was an easy choice to go into healthcare.
    • My joy in healthcare, is knowing that everyday I’m part of an organization who finds additional dollars to keep hospital doors open.  I also enjoy the diversity of people that I’ve met throughout my career in healthcare and made friendships that will last a lifetime.  HFMA is a family that makes you feel like you are at home on the road.  Also having a sister who serves the Kansas City community as a Pediatrician, I’m inspired every day to do my part.

  • Professional goals you are working on right now?
    • Finish my CHFP!!!!
    • With our company being specific to complex claims, I’m always looking to continue educating myself on revenue cycle operations along with hospital operations.  You can never learn enough to improve your career.
