Iowa Chapter

President’s Welcome

When I joined Iowa HFMA in 2013, I figured I would attend a few meetings as a way to obtain some professional education and get out of the office on occasion.  Little did I know that ten years later, I would be writing this letter and accepting the honor of serving as your chapter President during Iowa HFMA’s 70th year! More to come on that.

I have some pretty big shoes to fill.  Our chapter has been so fortunate to have very dedicated volunteers that have made Iowa an award-winning chapter!  They are the kind of volunteers that you are proud to serve alongside.  The kind of volunteers that become your life-long friends.  The kind of friends that show up when you need them. The kind of volunteers that have allowed us to bring home two chapter success awards in as many years, several Yerger awards (from the previous national award program) and the Grand-Daddy of them all, the Shelton Award.  You know who you are.

If you have ever thought about getting more involved with this chapter, please consider this letter your personal invitation.  We welcome the opportunity to have you! Don’t hesitate to contact myself or any of the chapter officers or board members. No volunteer job is too small, and I can guarantee you, you won’t regret it.

Now, onto celebrating our chapter’s big Anniversary.  70 years!  When Queen Elizabeth hit this milestone, I believe it was called her Platinum Jubilee.  Plans are under way to celebrate our Platinum Jubilee in January.  Save the dates – January 17– 18, 2024! Educational sessions, a reception, and dinner are all being planned.  If you have pictures or stories from the past that we need to include in our celebration, please contact Dave Muhs.

I would like to thank our outgoing President, Joe Splinter for all of his hard work and dedication to our chapter.  Joe began his officer rotation before the pandemic, and it is through his leadership that we were able to keep providing education to our members and adapted as we navigated the ever-changing environment of the last three years.  It has been a privilege to serve our chapter with you, Joe.

Last, but not least, we are here for you!  Our members are why we exist.  Please let me know if you have questions or ideas.

Let’s have a Great Year – Happy 70th Iowa HFMA!
