Forum Webinar: Tackling Two CAH Financial Challenges

June 12, 2014 4:36 pm

During this July 17, 2014, Forum webinar, a hospital CFO and another finance expert shared how they have tackled the specific CAH challenges of recruiting physicians to work in emergency departments (ED) and delivering pharmacy services. Here are three key takeaways from the discussion:

Evaluate emergency department (ED) physician compensation plans before implementation. Consult with MACs to ensure that competitive ED physician compensation plans fit within Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidelines, said Ralph Llewellyn, Partner, Eide Bailly, LLP

Involve hospital leaders in pharmacy challenges. Ask senior executives, such as the COO, to attend pharmacy staff meetings to resolve service problems (e.g., limited service in rural areas and delays in discharges because medications aren’t available), said Lenne Bonner CFO of St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics, Cottonwood, Idaho, and Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics, Orofino, Idaho.

Explore partnerships. Look to other healthcare organizations and county health programs for partnerships to increase healthcare services your CAH can deliver in small rural communities.
