Learning Lean Six Sigma Lingo: DMAIC

The steps denoted by the acronym DMAIC explain how to approach Lean Six Sigma projects. DMAIC processes and tools are designed to identify root causes and ensure the right solutions are being implemented. For each phase, Six Sigma offers tools to help organizations achieve success. DMAIC stands for the following actions:

  • Define the problem in the customer’s eyes.
  • Measure the problem.
  • Analyze the related data.
  • Improve the problem by implementing a solution within a pilot program.
  • Control advancements and ensure a sustainable solution through the control phase.
