Earning the Certified Healthcare Financial Professional® Designation

2015 redesigned CHFP Certification Program – Coming Soon!

The new CHFP will be structured into two parts:

  • Module 1: Achieving Strategy: The Business of Healthcare
  • Module 2: Operational Excellence: Healthcare Industry Stakeholder’s Business Challenges

Earning the CHFP - The CHFP credential is awarded upon successful completion of module 1 end of course assessment and successful completion of module 2 case study exercises.

For those who are considering becoming certified and are actively preparing for the exam, or have been through a chapter certification webinar series or practicum study group, we encourage you to continue with the current process.  HFMA and your local chapter will continue to support your professional development. Individuals who have earned the CHFP prior to 2015 are not affected.

Pre-registration for the new program will be available starting May 1, 2015. Pre-registration allows interested members to email HFMA. HFMA will email the members as soon as the link to purchase and more information about the new program is available.

Please refer to the CHFP Realigned program FAQs for more program information.

CHFP Online Examination Registration

The CHFP examination is delivered via the Internet by Castle Worldwide. Registration is handled through Castle Worldwide, including payment for the exam. Please note: You must be a current HFMA member to register, and sit for the CHFP examination. The CHFP certification costs are $395. This includes all application, testing, and processing fees. Should you not pass the examination, the retest fee is $200.

There are two options for testing through Castle Worldwide: Castle Worldwide Testing Centers or Live Online Proctored Test Administration. Please Note: The CHFP exam cost of $395 (CHFP application and exam fee) remains the same for either testing option. HFMA recommends selecting a date at least 10 days out, test center seats are available on a "first-come; first-served" basis.

Option 1 — Castle Worldwide Proctored Test Centers

View a listing of the cities, states and ZIP codes in which Castle Worldwide sites are available (international sites are also listed). When registering, candidates will be able to view the exact address for their selected testing site prior to confirmation. The majority of Castle Worldwide sites are open for testing Monday through Saturday during normal business hours. Exam candidates may select a date and time based on site availability during exam scheduling.

Option 2 — Live Online Proctored Test Administration

HFMA also offers secure, live, internet-based test administration for CHFP exam candidates. This service is in addition to the internet-based test administration at Castle’s Proctored Test Sites. Through the Castle Worldwide online test scheduling system, a candidate may elect to test via a live, online-proctored testing session. Both domestic and international candidates may select live, online-proctoring.

The Live, online proctoring service is available 24/7/365 for scheduling and exam delivery [based on the availability of proctors]. Candidates can schedule their exam at any hour of the day, any day of the week. Live, online proctoring eliminates the inconvenience of travel time and costs, and allows for more flexibility.

Candidates are responsible for ensuring their testing environment meets the minimum requirements to take the examination. The following are minimum technical requirements:

  • A well-working computer with 1 GB of RAM or higher
  • A high-speed internet connection (3MBps). Wireless is acceptable; however a wired-connection is preferred
  • A webcam with 640×480 video pixel resolution (a laptop camera is acceptable)
  • Working speakers connected to the computer
  • A microphone connected to the computer (consider a webcam with a built-in microphone)
  • Flash player version 7 or higher
  • Browser compatibility: IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari
