Hospital CEOs Name Top Financial Challenges

May 11, 2017 8:23 am

Financial challenges ranked as the top concern of hospital CEOs in 2016, according to the American College of Healthcare Executives’ (ACHE’s) annual survey of top issues confronting hospitals. The top three financial concerns were Medicaid payment, staff and supply costs, and operating costs.

“While financial concerns remain the top issue for CEOs, the survey results indicate that hospitals continue to have great interest in the regulatory environment and are maintaining a consistent focus on improving patient safety and the quality of care,” said Deborah J. Bowen, ACHE’s president and CEO. Survey respondents ranked governmental mandates second, closely followed by patient safety and quality.

Approximately 383 community hospital CEOs responded to the survey that asked respondents to rank 10 issues affecting their hospitals in order of how pressing they are and to identify specific areas of concern within each of those issues. Respondents could check as many concerns as desired.
