CY 2022 Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule Summary: Part I

On July 13, 2021, CMS placed on public display a proposed rule relating to the Medicare physician fee schedule for CY 2022 and other revisions to Medicare Part B policies. The proposed rule is scheduled to be published in the July 23, 2021, issue of the Federal Register. If finalized, policies in the proposed rule generally would take effect on January 1, 2022. The 60-day comment period ends at close of business on September 13, 2021. This summary is provided in two parts. Part I covers sections I through III.R and the Regulatory Impact Analysis. This includes payment policies under the PFS; Medicare Shared Savings Program requirements; Medicare coverage of opioid use disorder services furnished by opioid treatment programs; updates to certain Medicare provider enrollment policies; requirements for prepayment and postpayment medical review activities; requirements for electronic prescribing for controlled substances for a covered Part D drug; updates to the Medicare Ground Ambulance Data Collection System; changes to the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program expanded model; and amendments to the physician self-referral law regulations. Part II will cover the updates to the Quality Payment Program.
