Sanford Health selects Scott Wooten as CFO

Following a comprehensive national search, Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has named Scott Wooten, MBA, FACHE, as executive vice president and CFO. Wooten is a seasoned finance leader in the nonprofit healthcare sector. Prior to joining Sanford, he led Wooten Strategic Advisors, providing consulting services to physician groups, health systems, insurance companies, retail pharmacies and nonprofit organizations.

Wooten served as executive vice president and CFO at Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Florida, from 2014 through 2021. During that time, he established a long-term financial growth plan that more than doubled the system’s annual top line and led to two S&P rating upgrades. Wooten also previously served in executive finance roles at Alegent Creighton Health in Nebraska and AdventHealth in both Central Florida and North Texas.

A member of the Florida Chapter, Wooten has served on HFMA’s national Large System CFO Council for six years.  


Bradley Haws

Bradley Haws named CEO of University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics 

Bradley Haws, MBA, has returned to Iowa City as the CEO of University of Iowa (UI) Hospitals & Clinics and associate vice president of UI Health Care. He previously served UI Health Care as CFO and associate vice president from 2018 to 2021 before being named as CFO of Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2021. Haws, a member of the Georgia HFMA Chapter, also has held healthcare leadership roles with the University of Virginia and Intermountain Healthcare.  


Lynn Severson

Lynn Severson is the new CFO of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System 

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, Watertown, South Dakota, has selected Lynn Severson, MBA, as its CFO. Severson, who has a strong passion for healthcare in rural communities, has more than 20 years of experience in the field, most recently serving as COO at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, Minnesota. Prior to that she worked at Essentia Health for several years in a variety of financial leadership roles. A member of HFMA’s Minnesota Chapter, Severson also is active in United Way. 


Byron Gabbard

Appalachian Regional Healthcare promotes Byron Gabbard to CFO 

Byron Gabbard, MBA, is the new CFO at Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH), a multi-hospital system in Lexington, Kentucky. He previously was the system’s executive vice president of financial operations. Prior to joining ARH, Gabbard served 18 years in finance leadership roles with the University of Kentucky HealthCare system, including associate vice president of finance. He is a member of HFMA’s Kentucky Chapter.
