Arizona Chapter

President’s Welcome

What a privilege it is to serve AZ HFMA as the Chapter President this year.  I am humbled by the opportunity as I am reminded of those inspiring leaders who went before me.  I have been working on the Board in AZ for the last 10 years, and it has been incredible to watch and serve with such great teammates.   It is an amazing chapter.  I really appreciate the work Bart Shea has done these last few years, and the continued support he has been to me and all of Region 10.

This year’s theme as communicated at the Leadership Training Conference in San Antonio, Texas, by our new National Chair, Dennis Dahlen, is “It’s Time”.   Dennis shared how U.S. has been behind the rest of the civilized world in addressing the cost effectiveness of health (CEoH).   He commented on concerns about workforce issues, the need for more innovation and automation, and initiatives HFMA can embark on to lead the healthcare industry in significantly improving the CEoH.

His call reminds me of the Jewish story of Esther who became queen of the Medo-Persian Empire.  At that time her people were threatened with extinction and her uncle Mordecai asked her to petition the king to save her people.  When making such an audacious request of her he asks, “Who knows if you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”   In other words, “It’s Time!”  In the end, Esther does appeal to the king and her people are rescued from annihilation and the time is celebrated today as the Jewish feast of Purim.

Who knows if you have not come to your organization at such a time as this in order to lead and influence the CEoH in your role and responsibilities? It’s Time!

HFMA’s purpose is to lead in healthcare.  Much of this comes through education and networking in various forms.

HFMA is the only organization with the in-depth certifications that cover so many financial aspects of healthcare.  The certifications range from extremely comprehensive, like the Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) to extremely focused, like the Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), Certified Specialist Accounting & Finance (CSAF), Certified Specialist Business Intelligence (CSBI, Certified Specialist Payment & Reimbursement (CSPR) and, the Certified Specialist Physician Practice Management (CSPPM).

These programs are completely free to all members yet less than 15% of members in AZ HFMA have a certification.  It’s Time to get personally certified this year!  It’s Time to help other members get certified and to inculcate our organizations with the specialized and comprehensive learning provided by HFMA.

  • In AZ HFMA, our board has committed that
It’s Time we demonstrate the value of HFMA by creating problem solving committees comprised of Enterprise and other members.  These regular meetings will provide every member opportunities to be involved in developing solutions to shared issues.
  • It’s Time we engage more members with certification challenges to get them certified this year!
  • It’s Time to innovatively connect with our members through new technology landing pages that share opportunities which will help them get the most out of their membership.

This is our commitment to you!
