Maryland Chapter

President’s Welcome

Introduction, Kickoff, and Call for Volunteers

Greetings to the wonderful Maryland Chapter of HFMA!  For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Arin Foreman and I am so excited to be stepping in this year as President.  If we haven’t met, I cannot wait to meet you and hear your thoughts on the Chapter. I am proud of the work this Chapter does each year and I’m grateful to all of our volunteers, past and present.

A quick intro… I live in Howard County with my wife, son, daughter, and dog. I grew up, went to school, and have worked my entire career in Maryland, so I have an immense responsibility to give back to this community. Professionally, I started out auditing and consulting at KPMG, then moved to Johns Hopkins to focus on pediatric network development, and I now focus on corporate impact and social drivers of health at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. I believe in collaborating to accomplish more together and have benefitted from occupying roles in different sectors of the healthcare industry.

I want to give everyone a sense for what the volunteer leadership team is going to be focused on this year, both for transparency and accountability purposes. While you should expect our traditional event calendar, these are our new, additional priorities.

  • Belonging – we have committed to a culture of belonging. If you are attending your first event, we will be going out of our way to make you feel welcome and introduce you to other attendees.
  • Social Events – we are relaunching our social committee this year, so you should be on the lookout for some exciting networking opportunities throughout the year. We want to learn, have fun, and make space for relationships to develop. To join the committee, please contact Brooke Enslin.
  • Communication – this year, we will be forming a communications committee with broad representation and new volunteers.  This should result in consistent and timely updates about upcoming events, and much more.  To join the committee, please contact Caroline Znaniec.
  • Engagement – we have a lot of enterprise members in our Chapter and this year we are piloting road shows with some of them. Look for outreach from our leadership team for on-site education available to members that have not been historically engaged in the Chapter. To help with developing educational materials or logistics, please contact Nicole Copeland.
  • Webinars – these past few years we went from everything happening in-person to everything happening online and now we’re back to some combination. We do still believe given peoples’ busy work schedules and the geographic spread of our membership that webinars are relevant and valuable. In addition to our in-person events, you should expect to see more webinars available for your educational needs.  If you are interested in helping with webinars, please contact Nicole Copeland.

If you do not currently volunteer or perhaps have been wondering how to get more involved, this part is for you. We would love for more people to help us accomplish these goals. It’s certainly cliché, but it’s true that you’ll get more out of the Chapter if you put more into it.

If you want to stay in the loop, I encourage you to follow our LinkedIn page.

A huge thank you to our outgoing President, Brian Sims, who we won’t let go too far. A strong and charismatic leader, Brian has invested countless hours in the MD Chapter and we owe him a debt of gratitude.

Finally, our flagship event, MD HFMA Fall Conference (register here), will take place

September 25th – 27th at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD. The event will offer rich education providing up to 16 CPE credits, a golf outing, pickleball, a banquet, plenty of networking and other entertainment.

With that, I’m excited to kick off this year. Thank you for being a valuable member of HFMA.

I can’t wait to connect with you at one of our upcoming events.
