Phoenix Children’s selects Michelle Bruhn as new CFO

Phoenix Children’s — Arizona’s only freestanding children’s hospital — recently hired Michelle Bruhn, CPA, as executive vice president and CFO. In the new position, Bruhn will oversee finance, treasury, revenue cycle and managed care contracting as well as be directly responsible for fiscal policy, performance goals and planning.

Bruhn most recently served as executive vice president, CFO and treasurer for Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was with Sanford for 24 years and, prior to that, spent nearly a decade in public accounting focused on the hospitality, healthcare and nonprofit sectors.

In announcing her selection, Robert L. Meyer, president and CEO of Phoenix Children’s, said Bruhn’s experience makes her an ideal addition to the health system’s leadership team.

“With her depth of experience across every area of finance and operations, she will play an essential role in helping Phoenix Children’s grow into one of the largest pediatric health systems in the country,” said Meyer.

“I am honored to join Phoenix Children’s at such an exciting time,” said Bruhn, who is a member of HFMA’s South Dakota Chapter. “I’m also eager to serve alongside a talented group of leaders and stellar colleagues throughout Phoenix Children’s who are committed to advancing hope, healing and the best healthcare for children. Elmer Polite

Lifepoint Health promotes Elmer Polite

Lifepoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network based in Brentwood, Tennessee, has appointed Elmer Polite as president of its eastern division. In the new role, Polite, a member of HFMA’s South Carolina Chapter, will provide operational oversight for Lifepoint’s acute care hospitals in Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Polite joined Lifepoint in 2021 and previously served as CFO of the eastern division. Prior to that, he served as the chief financial executive of the Midlands market for Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina.


Staci Dickerson

Staci Dickerson is named CFO at Banner Health

Following a nationwide search, Banner Health in Phoenix, Arizona, has selected Staci Dickerson as its new CFO and executive vice president. Dickerson has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. She joins Banner from Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, California, where she served in a variety of system positions, including most recently as senior vice president of finance and CFO. A member of HFMA, Dickerson served on the San Diego-Imperial Chapter’s board of directors and is a former member of the Association’s national Principles and Practices Board.


Michael E. Morris

In memoriam: Michael E. Morris

HFMA joins friends and family in remembering Michael E. Morris, PhD, MPH, CHFP, who died at the age of 55 on Aug. 24 in Tyler, Texas. Morris was an associate professor of the Department of Healthcare Policy, Economics and Management at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Prior to moving into academia, he had a successful career in healthcare management and management consulting for more than 20 years. Morris was a member of HFMA’s Arkansas Chapter and served on HFMA’s national Board of Examiners from 2017 through 2020.
