How do you help healthcare organizations navigate the biggest challenges in healthcare?

Medicare and Medicaid represent the largest sources of U.S. healthcare spending and are major revenue drivers for most hospitals. Over the last 30 years, BESLER has developed deep expertise around these federal programs, making it possible for us to offer a range of reimbursement and revenue recovery solutions that help our customers recover revenue they have rightfully earned while maintaining compliance.

BESLER’s Easy Work Papers solution is designed to improve cost report accuracy and consistency while ensuring efficient report creation. A cost report is a critical reimbursement tool, but as much as 80% of it is repetitive and requires little-to-no changes from year to year. Easy Work Papers is designed to help hospitals automatically complete the areas that repeat, so their staff has more time to focus on areas that are unique and will have a material impact on the organization’s revenue.

What advice would you offer to healthcare leaders when choosing among vendors?

Hospitals should look for a configurable solution that allows them to prepare cost reports in accordance with their needs and preferences. Health systems, in particular, have variations across facilities that must be reconciled according to their internal requirements. At the same time, these organizations should strive for consistency where possible.

It is also important to consider who built and supports the software. Ideally, the people behind the solution should have deep experience working on Medicare and Medicaid cost reports as well as familiarity with working on hospital reimbursement teams. The software itself should be designed to provide users with key interactions at critical decision points to ensure that outcomes are appropriate for a hospital’s specific situation and issues.

Once organizations are comfortable using the software, they should be able to update and manage it on their own without having to involve a vendor for basic maintenance. However, vendors should always be willing to provide support for maintenance and updates until users are prepared to assume that role.

What is some advice you can give providers for a successful implementation of a new product or service?

Your vendor partner should be able to communicate what is needed to successfully onboard the technology. Make sure you fully understand their requirements and assign the appropriate staff members to facilitate each task.

Also, be sure to check that the implementation plan fully aligns with your organization’s unique needs. Changes to workpapers and calculations should improve your processes and not just reflect a vendor’s preference.
