Member spotlight: Reaching out to learn and lead are hallmarks of Nimisha Madhu’s approach to revenue cycle management work
Madhu is aquiring RCM knowledge with the help of HFMA international membership and certifications.
Nimisha Madhu enjoys exploring and learning about new areas in revenue cycle management (RCM) and then using her knowledge to deliver positive outcomes to her co-workers. Madhu, billing and recovery officer at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi, recently shared with HFMA’s International Update how she is using her HFMA international membership to enhance her current work as well as attain her future career goals.
In her role at SSMC, Madhu manages Cerner patient account applications in the health system’s RCM module. She conducts the system testing and resolves issues. She also supports the contract management team with payer coordination tasks.
Madhu’s goal is to acquire more knowledge in core areas of RCM to drive transformation and build her leadership role in SSMC’s healthcare finance department.
And she has taken an important step toward that goal by earning HFMA’s Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification. “Anyone working in the RCM sector should enroll in this certification. It adds a sense of professionalism when handling RCM main functions like billing, registration, collection and resubmission,” says Madhu. Next, she plans to earn HFMA’s Certified Specialist in Business Intelligence (CSBI) certification, which is part of HFMA’s international membership.
In addition to earning certifications, Madhu uses her HFMA international membership to learn and interact with healthcare professionals around the globe as well as enhance her RCM on-the-job skills.
“HFMA adds value to my daily revenue cycle work. I regularly incorporate new concepts and ideas learned from HFMA courses and hfm magazine. My membership is a valuable asset to me as I build my future career,” Madhu says. She also appreciates the ability to keep up with trends and news in the healthcare finance field.
From an organizational perspective, Madhu says that HFMA courses have helped her understand how the revenue cycle management process impacts all areas of health services at SSMC.
Madhu’s bright future is reflected in her positive attitude and willingness to support her team and lead within her organization. Her enthusiasm for networking and learning will take her a long way toward her goals.
