Ask the Expert: Achieving Transparency

October 25, 2012 11:33 am

Q: Are there any best practices that you can recommend for transparency?

A: Achieving best practices in the area of transparency is a growing need for many providers. Often, the type of provider and the market position dictate the goals of achieving transparency. Transparency is not limited to creating a menu of prices, nor is it creating endless lists of options.

Areas of transparency include financial, quality of care, and quality of facilities. To track transparency, your organization needs to determine a method to collect data and provide the data to the community. The goal of transparency is to provide clear accountability to your community. Transparency combined with a clear mission of service can be highly effective in serving your community.
