Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for Rural Emergency Hospitals and Critical Access Hospital CoP Updates Proposed Rule Summary: Part I

CMS released a proposed rule on June 30, 2022, that would establish Conditions of Participation (CoPs) that Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs) must meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This proposed rule also includes changes to the Critical Access Hospital CoPs. Proposed payment and enrollment policies, quality measure specifications and quality reporting requirements for REHs will be in future rulemaking. CMS also modifies the provider agreement regulations to include REHs. The proposed rule was published in the July 6, 2022, issue of the Federal Register. The public comment period will end on August 29, 2022.
