Position Description:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the financial viability of the Health System through leadership of assigned departments and of the administration of the policies and procedures related to contemporary health care financial operations and accounting practices. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, DNV requirements, and national patient safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the financial operations, accounting, investments, and managed care operations of the Health System.
  • Responsible for the preparation and reporting of the Health System financial information to the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors of the Health System.
  • Apprises the leadership of the organization of its financial position, issues periodic financial and operating reports.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, development, and evaluation of the following departments: Finance; Medical Records; Patient Financial Services, Decision Support, Reimbursement, Managed Care, Patient Access, Procedural Operations, and Central Supply.
  • Provides management with relevant financial information that supports the operations of the Health System.
  • Responsible for reporting financial information to all third parties that include but are not limited to Medicare & Medicaid Services, Tri-Care, IRS, and the Department of Community Health.
  • Coordinates the annual audit of the financial statements that is performed by an independent auditor.
  • Provides leadership and support to all departments throughout the Health System.
  • Promotes service excellence by developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, other team members, and the medical staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field and master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, finance or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of health care finance and a minimum of seven years leadership experience in a senior level finance role within a multi-site community health system, similar in size and scope to SGHS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certification is preferred.

Southeast Georgia Health System (SGHS) is a not-for-profit health care system with multiple locations and services. The Health System has served residents and visitors to the beautiful Golden Isles and surrounding areas of Southeast Georgia since 1888. Headquartered in the historic port city of Brunswick, the Health System serves the needs of residents from seven counties in Southeast Georgia – Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, McIntosh, Ware, and Wayne.

SGHS is comprised of two acute care hospitals offering a full spectrum of health care services, including maternity and newborn care, 24-hour emergency care, cath lab, intensive care, medical and surgical services, orthopedic and joint replacement surgeries, radiology, sports medicine and radiation and medical oncology services. The Health System’s Brunswick and Camden campus hospitals are accredited by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 1,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.

In addition to the two acute care hospital campuses, SGHS owns two senior care centers: Brunswick, a 200-bed, long-term care facility with a 32-bed Memory Care Unit; and St. Mary’s, a 78-bed, long-term care facility. As of September 1, 2024, PruittHealth, a respected leader in the senior care industry, manages the daily operations of the Senior Care Centers.

SGHS has 478 medical staff members, in addition to 2,721 team members. Southeast Georgia Physician Associates is a strategic affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System and the largest multi-specialty group of health care providers in the area. With locations in Glynn, Camden, Wayne and Ware counties, it includes more than 210 providers in over 20 different specialties. SGHS has two Immediate Care Centers and multiple specialty centers, including breast imaging, cancer care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology and endoscopy, infectious diseases, joint replacement, outpatient rehabilitation (physical, occupational and speech therapy), palliative care, sleep management, vein and wound care.

Additional Information About the Role:

The next Chief Financial Officer for Southeast Georgia Health System must have a proven track record of successfully leading financial operations in a forward-thinking independent, community-based care delivery system. Prior experience in all aspects of financial services, with specific emphasis on execution of a financial improvement plan, demonstrated revenue cycle management and managed care expertise and investment knowledge is critical. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience with graduate medical education programs. Demonstrated experience in working with consulting partners and vendors to understand all aspects of revenue generation and cost management is important. Experience presenting to and influencing the Board of Directors is essential for the success of the CFO.

  • Possess executive-level presence as demonstrated by exceptional communication, presentation, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills, to include a transparent communication style and a spirit of collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing the strategic vision for Financial Services within the organization, while also having a level of detail orientation that allows a thorough knowledge of current state and future needs of the finance team and the organization.

  • Strong ability to evaluate, develop, and mentor talent within the Finance leadership team.

  • Effective planning, prioritization and project management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and adjust based upon the changing needs of the health system.
  • Establishes personal and professional credibility with all constituencies across the organization, to include a service-oriented leadership style. Specifically, nurtures excellent and highly credible internal and external user relationships with emphasis on consistent, superior service, and performance.
  • Possesses a servant leader mentality/orientation by placing greater emphasis on the goals of the organization and the financial services team/department ahead of (his/her) own personal goals.

Position Summary:

The Financial Manager II – FP&A provides leadership, management, and coordination related to month-end close process, including forecasting and variance analysis. The position will develop and maintain skills related to financial analysis, long range financial plans, budgets, and decision support. Directs the preparation of financial plans that are consistent with historical trends, strategic growth projections, and inflationary assumptions. The Financial Manager II – FP&A reports to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or any healthcare related field

Experience: 5+ years of experience in a Finance / Accounting related function

License/Registration/Certifications: Must be proficient user of Excel and high understanding of database programs.

Preferred Requirements:

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Accounting, Finance, or Business-Related Field

Preferred Experience: 8+ years’ experience in finance / decision support / or related field, to include at least 2 years in a healthcare setting.
