It has been a wonderful experience serving as the President of the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of HFMA for 2021-2022, we have so many talented, dedicated and passionate chapter volunteers. It has been a true pleasure meeting and networking with our members and sponsors, working with our board, committees and other leaders on chapter planning and attending our virtual and in-person events throughout the chapter year. Our chapter year runs from June 1 to May 31 and it has been a successful one with the return to in-person education and social events. Today’s HFMA has more than 83,000 members strong and our Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter has approximately 2,000 members.

On Friday March 18, 2022, our chapter held our annual Spring Institute, our first in-person education event in nearly two years, at the Bellevue Hotel in Center City Philadelphia. Thank you to Danielle LaBraico and Nicole Orange for planning a great event. It was an excellent day of education and networking for our members and all that attended appreciated the opportunity to connect and network with friends, colleagues and peers. We had close to 250 members attend this amazing event, which featured presentations from key Philadelphia healthcare leaders, including Dr. Brian Nester, President and CEO of Lehigh Valley Health Network, Nicholas Barcellona, CFO of Temple University Health System, Calvin Knowlton, CEO of Tabula Rasa HealthCare and many others.

We are often asked how is our chapter organized and how can one get more involved.  Our chapter has five officers, President, President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, and 12 board members. We are fortunate to have such an active Past President group that attends our events, participates in event planning and is always there for guidance and support. Thank you to Anne Del Pizzo and Mike Rossi for agreeing to serve on the newly formed Past President Council. We also have core and support committees, including Program, Membership Engagement/Volunteer, Communications, Certification, Sponsorship, Community Outreach, Mentorship and Social/Networking. We also have several education committees that plan our eight to ten educations events throughout the chapter year and as you can see below these groups have been busy. All committees are comprised of several healthcare professionals, including chair, committee members and volunteers. Thank you to all of our chapter leaders and volunteers for your energy, creativity and dedication throughout the chapter year. We are a 100% volunteer organization.

We encourage all of our members to get involved in a committee or volunteer to assist with our events. Our chapter continues to embrace “Bolder. Brighter. Better.”, which is the theme developed by 2021-2022 Association National Chair, Tammie Jackson, FHFMA, CHFP. Please join me in working together to help shape our chapter and the Association for years to come. HFMA’s certifications demonstrates your qualifications to senior management, co-workers, and the industry— highlighting your commitment to the profession and maintaining up-to-date skills and knowledge. There are several HFMA certifications, including Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP™) and Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR).  We encourage our members to consider pursuing an HFMA certification.
