Greetings Metro Philadelphia HFMA members! I hope that the new year has gotten off to a great start for all of you. Our chapter got the new year started on a high note with our Longwood Gardens Christmas visit on Saturday, January 7th which was attended by 50 HFMA members and their families and friends. We were pleased to connect with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, a national 501(c)(3) organization, adding a fundraising component to this Longwood event and I’d like to thank Carol Primavera Paris, chair of our Community and Social Outreach Committee, for coordinating our Longwood visit.
Our chapter also hosted a virtual Professional Development Seminar on Thursday, January 17th where we heard from several speakers on the key role of professional and interpersonal authenticity in today’s business environment. I’d like to thank the Professional Development Committee Co-Chairs, Jacob Rubin and Kristen Alwine for their efforts in planning the event and finding our top-notch speakers.
We have several excellent in-person events planned for the next few months, including our Healthcare 101 event on Thursday, February 16th at KPMG’s office in Philadelphia.
The primary focus of this half-day seminar will be to review the results of our chapter leadership survey and hear from a panelist of area health system leaders as they share their experiences. This seminar is ideal for early careerists who want to get involved in learning more about healthcare and developing their leadership skills. The session will go from 1:00 to 4:00 PM with a networking reception to follow. On Friday, March 24th, we will be hosting our Annual Spring Institute at the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia.
In addition to these events, please Save the Date for our other upcoming education and social events in 2023, including:
- Data Analytics Seminar – April 28, 2023 – KPMG, Philadelphia, PA
- Annual Women’s Event – Early May 2023 – Location TBD
- Annual Golf Outing – May 25, 2023 – Paxon Hollow Country Club, Media, PA
I’d like to remind everyone to take a moment to review your member profile details on the HFMA website. This is important to make sure your contact information is correct and that the Association can accurately deliver your member benefits and additional profile information like your job title, job function, etc. will help to personalize your membership experience. You will be prompted to verify your identity by selecting your state of residence before proceeding to updates.
Finally, it is that time of year again, when your chapter leaders have recommended new leaders to guide the chapter forward in the coming years. You will be receiving an email in the next week or so which includes a slate of officers and directors for your consideration as the leadership of the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of HFMA for the Chapter Year June 2023 to May 2024. These individuals are being recommended based on their demonstrated commitment and solid leadership over recent years. Please look out for this email, review the ballot and record your vote.
As always, thank you for your support of our great chapter. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the chapter board members with any feedback on how we can make our chapter work for you!
President, Metro-Philadelphia Chapter
This year I had the pleasure of hosting the Annual Past President’s Dinner on May 11th at Davio’s King of Prussia. This great traditional dinner gathers Past Presidents of the Chapter along with current Officers and Board Members. We were honored to have seventeen past presidents attend as well as Kevin Brennan and Joanne Judge, former HFMA National Chairs, and Mike McKeever, past president of the New Jersey Chapter and current HFMA regional executive for our region. Thomas Heron (1991-1992) was the earliest past president to join us. Chris Niwinski, who served as President during the 2020-2021 Chapter Year, presided over the Installation of New Officers and Board Members for the 2022-2023 Chapter Year.
The dinner is always filled with lots of laughs, stories and great memories from our past presidents and it was extra special that we could finally get together as a group after a three-year hiatus. Amidst the laughter, we also took the time to acknowledge the recent passing of Burt Church (1978-1979) and to remember how much he enjoyed this annual gathering. I also had the honor of presenting Chapter awards to several of our guests. Kevin Brennan received the 2020 Soon Lee Education Award. Joanne Judge received the 2020 Annual Achievement Award and Guy Hoffman received the 2022 Benjamin Franklin Award. Danielle LaBraico, who was not able to make the dinner, received the 2021 Edward Mallon Outstanding Member Award. The great atmosphere and camaraderie in the room was a great reminder to the newer members of the board of what it truly means to be a member/volunteer of this chapter.
Anne DelPizzo (2019-2020) captured some great pictures of the evening: https://philahfma.smugmug.com/2022-Past-Presidents-Dinner
Looking forward to next year’s event,
